ColorFall (Arts and Entertainment)
Location: Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park
This annual celebration of the autumn season features an extensive chrysanthemum display with hundreds of flowering plants in both interior and exterior areas. Fall is the most colorful season of the year as it features constantly changing hues of scarlet, auburn, yellow and gold. The many colors of nature can be found along the walking trails of Meijer Gardens and at Michigan’s Farm Garden where heirloom vegetables, herbs, maize, gourds and giant pumpkins can be found. Color tours, tram rides and seasonal children’s activities offer a unique way to experience autumn.
Jr. Pinckney Players present "The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe" (Arts and Entertainment)
The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe tells a story, of four children who inadvertently wander from an old wardrobe into the land of Narnia, and the adventures they encounter as they help Aslan save Narnia from the evil White Witch. Anyone who is a Narnia or C.S. Lewis fan will not want to miss out on this production. Performances will be at the Jane Tasch Theatre on M36, in Pinckney MI. Hilberry Theatre Presents 'The Fantasticks' (Arts and Entertainment)

St. John's Armenian Church 2009 Festival (Festivals)
St. John Armenian Church of Southfield is celebrating its yearly Festival with a theme of our History “Armenia ~Land Of Noah’s Ark”- with carnival rides, homemade Armenian specialty foods, a market place with a variety of venders, Armenian music, dancing, raffles, auctions and a fine arts exhibit and sale. We look forward every year to inviting the community to this Fall Festival to share our culture and friendship with our neighbors throughout the state. Everyone is welcome to this wonderful event. St. John is located at 22001 Northwestern Highway, at Southfield Freeway and festivities run from Thursday, October 1st through Sunday, October 4th. There will be a blood drive on Saturday with a goal to collect 70 pints of blood. Donors should schedule an appointment by calling 248-569-3446. The Carnival and Festival are open to the public. Festival attendees are asked to bring in canned goods as part of the Church’s food drive to aid Forgotten Harvest.St. John’s Armenian Church, with its distinguishing gold dome, is a national landmark. In the early 1960s, the dome was used as a navigational marker by pilots flying into Metro Airport.Armenia, a small country East of Turkey and North of Iran, is one of the oldest and most historic civilizations in the world. Every school district in Macomb County has students who attend school - homeless. They go to school from shelters, cheap motels or crowded in with relatives.The Clinton Valley Kiwanis are sponsoring a Wine Tasting/ Italian Buffet Dinner/ Silent Auction on Tuesday, October 6th from 6:00-9:00pm. The tickets are $25 or a table of ten can be reserved for $225- a savings of $25. It will be held at the Mirage Banquet Center, 16980 Eighteen Mile Rd. in Clinton Twp. Belle Isle: Soul of the City Exhibit and Forum (Community awareness)
The Friends of Belle Isle will present a forum on Belle Isle Park management in conjunction with the “Belle Isle: Soul of the City” exhibition installed at the Detroit Historical Museum until October 11, 2009. The forum will run from 6:00 – 8:00 pm on Thursday October 8, 2009 at the museum. In so many ways, Belle Isle has lit the way for better urban living since its purchase for use as a park in 1879. The rich cultural heritage of the park is celebrated in picnics and reunions every year, and its worth is demonstrated in special civic events, recreational programs and everyday leisure. Its fragile ecosystem is less well-understood, but as Americans everywhere are learning about the value of “going green,” equally important. This forum will identify next steps for its preservation. A $5 donation is requested from the general public, but Detroit Historical Society and Friends of Belle Isle members can participate for free. Belle Isle: Soul of the City Art Exhibition (Art & Craft Show)
The Friends of Belle Isle in partnership with the Detroit Historical Society will present “Belle Isle: Soul of the City,” a public exhibition in the community gallery of the Detroit Historical Museum located at 5401 Woodward. This exhibit will run from July 18 – October 11, 2009, with an opening night event on July 17, 2009 and a forum on park management on October 8, 2009. The opening night for “Belle Isle: Soul of the City” runs from 6:00 – 8:00 at the Detroit Historical Museum, including food and wine. Tickets are $40 each to benefit the Friends of Belle Isle, and Belle Isle related products including “Island in the City: How Belle Isle Changed Detroit Forever,” a 112 page history of the park, will be available, along with information about the park’s future. Jennifer Granholm will join City Year Detroit’s partners, sponsors and friends as they celebrate 63 new full-time volunteer corps members pledging to “give a year–change the world” at the 11th Anniversary Opening Day Ceremony. The Opening Day Celebration will be held on Friday, October 2 from 11:45 a.m.–1:00 p.m. at Campus Martius Park. The new corps members are talented young adults who have decided to put their careers on hold for one year to help transform their communities. Over the next 10 months, City Year’s 63 corps members (young adults up to age 24) will collectively provide more than 107,000 hours of volunteer service.
